Just tested positive for COVID-19?

There are prescription medications that can help prevent serious illness. Remember to act quickly! Most COVID-19 medications must be started within the first 5 days of symptoms. For more information about COVID-19 treatments, please visit the CDPH COVID-19 Treatments webpage.

People who are more likely to get very sick from COVID-19 include:

  • older adults
  • people who are unvaccinated
  • people with certain medical conditions, such as diabetes, chronic lung disease, heart disease, or a weakened immune system.

Contact your Healthcare Provider as soon as you test positive. If you are uninsured, have high co-pays or can’t reach your provider, try one of the following options:

  1. Visit treatments.hhs.gov/ to find COVID-19 treatment near you.
  2. If you have Medicaid, Medi-Cal or are uninsured, you may qualify for a patient assistance program to get the medication free of charge. If you have private insurance, you may be able to get help with the co-pay.
    • You can learn more about the programs for Paxlovid at paxlovid.com/paxcess and for Lagevrio (molnupiravir) at Merckhelps.com.
