Updated Shelter in Place Orders

Revised and effective January 25, 2021 and valid until replaced, amended, or rescinded, below are specific updated guidelines from Health Officer Order 21-01.  List of Approved Types of Businesses »

Health Officer Order 21-01 supersedes Health Officer Order 20-21a. 

Please refer to Appendix A: English | Chinese (Simplified) | Spanish for the Worksite-Specific Protection Plan. Go to Workplace Guidance page for these specific protocols & plans in other languages.

All businesses and activities within the County are now subject to the restrictions and requirements imposed by the State of California in its Blueprint for a Safer Economy and Industry Guidance. Moving to other color tiers may require a more detailed list of permitted activities or restrictions.

Businesses and activities are permitted to continue as allowed by the California Department of Public Health through the State’s Blueprint for a Safer Economy, unless further restricted by the State or the County Health Officer.

All individuals two-years old or older within the County of Alameda now must comply with the California Department of Public Health’s Guidance for the Use of Face Coverings, which generally requires all individuals to wear a face covering whenever outside of the home, except as exempted by that Guidance.

  • Any school that currently has students attending classes in person may continue to do so.
  • Schools that are not open are encouraged to utilize the State’s school-based small cohort guidance; FAQ 
  • The lifting of the State's Regional Stay At Home Order does not modify existing state guidance.
  • Alameda County is following the State’s newly released framework and guidance on school reopening.

  • Alameda County recommends avoiding non-essential travel to any part of California more than 120 miles from one's place of residence, or to other states or countries in alignment with the State’s Travel Advisory (Updated January 6, 2021)

    If you do travel outside the Bay Area, you should self-quarantine for 10 days after arrival. Please see the ACPHD Guidance for Returning Travelers for more recommendations.

  • Small and time-limited private gatherings among no more than three household are now permitted outdoors under State guidance.
    • Masks and physical distancing are still required for these gatherings, and anyone who is experiencing symptoms must not attend.
    • Singing, shouting, chanting, cheering, or exercising are strongly discouraged.
    • Those at high risk of severe illness are strongly encouraged not to attend.
  • Large gatherings and gathering indoors are still prohibited.
